Within the framework of the joint plan of actions of the Women’s Union of Turkmenistan and Multi-country branch “the United Nations – women” for the Central Asian countries, the first training seminars for members of local governing bodies and activists engaged in social activity took place in Lebap and Mary provinces. In total, nearly100 persons participated in the work of seminars.
At the first session “International standards and obligations in sphere of gender equality and strengthening of women”, the specialists presented the international program documents in the field of the women’s rights.
Separate session was devoted to the gender policy of Turkmenistan. Masters of a seminar have focused attention on issues of legislative base of Turkmenistan on maintenance of equal rights and possibilities for men and women; role of the state structures and institutions, regulating the gender policy, and role of social organizations in strengthening and use of women’s potential.
Practical trainings were devoted to issues of gender planning and monitoring of realization of the National Action Plan. Participants have defined the most vital for their etraps and gengeshliks the gender requirements and interests, and proceeding from it, have made individual plans on maintenance of equal rights and possibilities for women and men.
New Law “On state guarantees of maintenance of equal rights and equal possibilities of women and men” passed by the Parliament of Turkmenistan on August 18, 2015 is of conceptual and practical significance for Turkmenistan. The National Action Plan on gender equality in Turkmenistan for 2015-2020 is directed to provide conditions of equal participation of women and men in all spheres of life. The document covers such areas as maintenance of equal rights in social and economic sphere, assistance to equal possibilities in the field of education, public health services, development of system of gender education and others.
