The Intergovernmental Turkmenistan-Russia Commission for economic cooperation held its ninth meeting in Ashgabat. A high-level delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Sergei Prikhodko arrived in the capital of Turkmenistan to participate in the meeting.
The agenda of the regular bilateral meeting covered a wide range of issues relating to the prospects for building up bilateral relations in the key areas, including trade and economy, fuel and energy, telecommunications, construction, building materials production, water management, agriculture, tourism and other sectors. A focus of discussions was Turkmen-Russian humanitarian cooperation, particularly in the spheres of education, science and culture, in which cooperation is traditional and systematic.
The meeting participants positively evaluated the work done to implement bilateral agreements and confirmed the commitment of the two countries to foster a fruitful dialogue based on the centuries-old relations of friendship, good neighbourliness and mutual understanding.
The Commission members reviewed the progress in implementing the major joint projects and specified a number of concrete steps towards diversification of mutually beneficial cooperation based on mutual trust, equality and best interests of the two countries that had the tremendous potential and ample opportunities.
After the meeting had been concluded, the participants signed the Protocol.
