From new academic year, the Chinese and Japanese languages will be introduced in a number of schools and higher educational establishments

From 2016-2017 academic year, it is planned to introduce in some schools, a series of higher educational establishments of the country the Chinese and Japanese languages as the second foreign language. In Ashgabat, new language disciplines will appear in the schedules of six schools, in Balkan province – five, in Lebap - three and two schools in each of other provinces - Ahal, Dashoguz and Mary.

At the Turkmen State Institute of Economy and Management, the students have started to learn the Chinese language, and from the next academic year, it is planned to introduce the Chinese and Japanese languages in the curriculum on such specialties as world economy, world financial market, and international information business.

Taking into account the expansion of cooperation with the Chinese and Japanese companies in oil and gas sector of Turkmenistan, new language subjects will be also introduced in the International Oil and Gas University: on specialties – the chemical technology of oil and gas processing, environmental protection and rational use of natural resources, design, construction and use of oil and gas pipelines, development of oil and gas deposits.

At the Turkmen State Institute of Transport and Communications, in specialty opened from the current academic year – shipbuilding, the students started to learn additionally the Japanese, and in future, this subject will be included into the curriculum of specialties for exploitation of water and air transport. From next academic year, at the International University of the Humanities and Development, the learning of the Japanese language begins in the direction “international relations and world politics”. To this end, it is established closer cooperation with Tokyo International University with which it was made an agreement and carried on the talks on concrete issues.

With a view to provide with the teaching staff for Japanese and Chinese languages, it is planned to increase the number of students in relevant trends of study, being carried out by TSU named after Magtymguly, where since 2013, it is opened a specialty Chinese language and literature, and at the Turkmen National Institute of World Languages named after Azadi, which graduates with Chinese and Japanese language specialization successfully work today in different parts of the country.

Besides development of curricula, programs, textbooks and dictionaries on new language subjects for schools and higher educational establishments, it is also envisaged the organization of short-term courses on learning of Japanese and Chinese languages, as well as training courses for young teachers.

The concept of long-term socio-economic development of Turkmenistan defined the exclusive role of education system in formation of human, intellectual and economic potential of the country. Presently, in terms of globalization of world economy, intensive development of international relations of Turkmenistan, the mandatory component of the professional characteristics of a specialist of any profile becomes a foreign language, which is dictated by need to realize successfully the professional cooperation with foreign specialists.

Taking into account the prospects of development of our country's relations with China and Japan, implementation of the largest joint projects in basic sectors of Turkmen economy, it is increased the urgency of learning of languages of these countries by future specialists.
