The performance of the Taekwondo (ITF) practitioners from Turkmenistan in the 6th International Martial Arts Games was a great success. On the first day of the competitions, our sportsmen won two gold, one silver and one bronze medals in the individual tul discipline. Then they added seven gold medals in the individual duels and one silver medal in the self-defence discipline to their sporting achievements

The Turkmenistan national team consisted of seven martial artists, and they all stood on the highest step of the podium in the combat competitions. This fact testifies to the high level of the national taekwondo (ITF) school that becomes well known in the international sports arena with every passing year.

Four gold medals were gained in the group of the black belt holders, including a student from Turkmen State Institute of Culture Gaigysyz Atabaev, who performed in the under 57 kg weight category, and a student Goshaniyaz Durdyev from Mary, who performed in the under 63 kg weight category of the junior tournament. Our martial artists knocked their opponents from Nepal and India out in the first minutes of the second round.

The undisputed 2013 Asian junior champion Orazmyrat Charyev (under 57 kg) and Erkebai Erkebaev (under 69 kg) won the gold medals in the competitions of the black belt holders.

The brothers Arslan and Erkin Batyrovs and Rustem Suleimanov, who had no rivals in the group of sportsmen with different coloured belts, took the first places.

Four Taekwondo practitioners from Turkmenistan: G. Atabaev (defending), O. Charyev, G. Durdyev and E. Erkebaev (attacking) won ‘silver’ in the self-defence discipline.

The national anthem of Turkmenistan was performed in honour of our martial artists nine times (equal to the number of gold medals) at the awarding ceremony. Adding two silver and one bronze medals to nine medals, we get a dozen of medals won by Turkmen sportsmen in prestigious competitions of the world level. Presenting the special Cup for the best preparation of the team to the chief coach of the Turkmenistan national team, Honoured Coach of Turkmenistan, the holder of the International Master title (7th Dan) Aidogdy Atabaev, the organizers of the international tournament noted that this was one of the best performances at the ITF Taekwondo tournament.

The ITF Congress was held in the framework of the competitions that had brought together several thousand athletes from 30 countries. The participants elected the new Board of the International Taekwondo Federation and choose the country that would be hosting the 7th Mixed Martial Arts Games in 2017. The host country is Macedonia.
