Turkmenistan and United Nations Population Fund have signed Agreement on co-financing of the State program for 2016-2020 year period. This is a significant event in the history of cooperation of Turkmenistan with UNFPA. As a member of the United Nations Organization, Turkmenistan have become the first country in Central Asian region, which has made significant contribution to regional efforts in the sphere of development of humanitarian cooperation.
“We welcome Agreement on co-financing as an important step of Turkmenistan to a direction of development programs in the country completely in own hands, - said Mr. Hejmo Laakkonen, UNFPA Regional director for the Eastern Europe and Central Asia. – By signing the present Agreement, Turkmenistan once again confirms the adherence to further progress in the sphere of such priority issues of the population, as gender equality, realization of youth potential and general access to services in the sphere of reproductive health. The agreement becomes an example of new model of partnership in the activity on achievement of Sustainable development purposes”.
The Fourth State program of cooperation of Turkmenistan and UNFPA for 2016-2020 reflects the Purposes of sustainable development. Work for the next five years is focused on definition of the quality standards on the main national priorities: mother and the newborn health protection, protection of reproductive health of youth, gender equality, the population and others.
