Preliminary contests within the framework of the Open Archery Championship of the Federation took place in Mary, and on the ice arenas of the capital, the masters of ice hockey competed for the medals.
Competitions on the accuracy gathered nearly 50 athletes, representing the teams of Mary, Dashoguz provinces and Ashgabat. During three days, the participants will have to compete in two disciplines of this kind of sports - shooting from classic and block bow in distances of 12 meters (juniors up to 16 years) and 18 meters (a group of men and women).
Contests take place in new multifunctional Mary sport complex. Today, the participants competed for access to the final stage. According to regulations, in the elimination matches, each of the athletes had 60 shots, after which the jury summarized the results, having defined a group of 32 shooters, who in next stage of tournament (1/16), will continue to fight for awards already on the Olympic system - knockout.
Owing to great attention of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to the national sport movement, many kinds of sport gained their development, including archery, which Federation was officially opened in summer of the last year. And already in autumn, new sports organization of Turkmenistan joined the Asian Archery Federation (AAF). This decision was made at the regular Congress of AAF held in November in the capital of Thailand - Bangkok.
In last year, the Turkmen followers of this kind of sport gained the first international experience in the course of training camps in Istanbul (Turkey). And in March of the current year, Antalya will open its sports bases on archery for international training sessions. In this training process, it is planned the participation of our team, which composition will be determined according to the results of the current contests in Mary.

Hockey fights are held on two ice arenas - Sports Complex of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Sports Complex for Winter Sports. 6 teams divided into 2 groups compete for main trophy of the competition. The group “A” includes “Galkan”, “Shir” and “Vatanchi”, and the group “B” – “Oguzhan”, “Nesil” and “Alp Arslan”.
The tournament started with the fight between reigning champion of Turkmenistan – “Galkan” club and “Vatanchi”. As it was expected, the best team in the country in 2015 confirmed its high status, defeating opponents with a score of 15: 1.
In the second match, the teams of “Oguzhan” and “Alp Arslan” appeared on the ice. This fight also gladdened the fans with number of goals. Hockey players of “Oguzkhan” 16 times made the goalkeeper of opponents to take out a puck out of the gate while “Alp Arslan” scored only once.
In the course of group stage of the games, the participants will have to determine two best hockey clubs each, which will make the semi-final pairs. On February 17, it will be held the final game and match for the third place. And in February 15, in the morning, on the ice arena of Sports Complex of MIA, it will be held the final meeting, which will determine the winner of the children’s hockey tournament. Young athletes under the age of 10 years old will compete for awards. In the decisive game, the teams of Sports school of the State Committee of Turkmenistan for Sport and backup staff of “Oguzkhan” will meet. These contests are organized with a view of promotion of hockey among the younger generation of the Turkmen people.

Another major sport event of this week was the meeting held in the conference hall of the Executive Committee of V Asian Indoor Games and Martial Arts, where the workers of the Ministry of Education delivered the reports on the ongoing work to promote and explain the principles of the volunteer movement among the students of higher and secondary vocational educational establishments. It was also discussed the issues in connection with the adoption of the Law of Turkmenistan “On volunteering.”
As the meeting participants noted, the coordinated work of volunteers, to a large extent, depends on the success of such major sport forums as upcoming Games Ashgabat-2017. Turkmen volunteers already had a good international training school. They accumulated the experience of work at the World Universidad in Kazan, IV Asian Indoor Games and Martial Arts and XVII Summer Asian Games, held correspondingly in 2013 and 2014 in the Korean city of Inchon, I European Games-2015 and others.
Turkmen volunteers have been also invited as guests to the World Winter Olympic Games - 2014 in Sochi (Russia). This year, they will consolidate their knowledge in the course of Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), which will host more than 10 thousand athletes from nearly 200 countries. This event will be for our volunteers a kind of test on the eve of the Asian Games-2017.
Already in coming spring, the Ashgabat Olympic Township will begin to host the test international competitions on sports presented in the Program of V Asian Indoor Games and Martial Arts.
