The winners and runners-up of the Ashgabat Junior Kickboxing (U18) Championship, held at the Galkynysh sports complex in Ashgabat, were defined.
Mekan Atabav (under 54 kg), Shohrat Esenov (under 57 kg), Kakajan Nepesov (under 60 kg), Artyom Habarov (under 63.5 kg), Akmyrat Akyev (under 67 kg), Hemra Orazov (under 71 kg), Orazmuhammed Orazdurdyev (under 86 kg) and Dovletmyrat Oraev (under 91 kg) stood on the podium.
A few days ago the national Turkmenistan team in this martial art returned home from the international training sessions, which took place in Thailand, Koh Samui. The choice of the venue is not accidental: the local school of Thai boxing is famous for its athletes – the winners in the world and Asian championships.
According to Honoured Coach of Turkmenistan, the chief coach of the national team Aleksander Snagovsky, the training sessions abroad are particularly important for the exchange of experiences, as our country will host the V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, the programme of which includes the kick boxing tournament.
It should be noted that the Turkmen kick boxers won the gold and bronze medals in the IV Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, held in Incheon, South Korea in 2013. Today they are to fulfil a difficult but quite feasible task – to significantly improve the team result at the 2017 Asian Games in Ashgabat.
The Turkmen kick boxers are currently preparing for another international training session, which will be held in Kazakhstan from 8 to 22 March. Our athletes will apply their skills in practice on the ring of the major international tournament, which will take place in the capital of Latvia, Riga in late March.
