The strongest young chess players of the country were announced

The winners and prize-winners of two Chess Championships of Turkmenistan among children under 8 years old and juniors under 14 years old have been determined. Particularly, bitter struggle for gold medals there was in group of girls, where according to the results of the competitions, just two participants –Merjen Ilamanova from Ashgabat and athlete from Lebap Dinara Orunbayeva pretended for the first place, having accumulated 13 points.

In such cases, the organizers resort to correlation of sport coefficients of the participants. At the end, the victory was gained by the capital’s chess player, who trains under the guidance of Annamuhammed Atabayev. This is the first gold medal of M. Ilamanova in the tournaments of national level.


The third place among girls was won by Myahri Kurbangeldiyeva from Ashgabat - 12 points.

Lebap chess player – Shageldy Kurbandurdiyev, who scored 14 points from possible 15 (13 wins and 1 loss) raised the highest step of the podium among boys. Bitterness of only defeat, the leader of tournament has experienced in game with Dashoguz resident Rovshen Kalandarov (11.5 points), who eventually became the bronze medal winner. Silver award was also gained by another representative of Lebap- Ilhan Chariyev (13 points).

In the group of boys up to 14 years old, the resident of Ashgabat Azat Nurmammedov was out of competition. The athlete of the Honored Coach of Turkmenistan Serdar Annaberdiyev completed 13 parties in his favor and in two - agreed to a draw (14 points). Silver and bronze medals were also won the chess players of the capital team – Soltan Myradov (13 points) and Allayar Shirliyev (12 points).

Among girls, the leader of the tournament was Lebap athlete - Jennet Durdiyeva, having scored 14 points. Athlete of Suhrab Semiyev won a victory prematurely, becoming unattainable for her rivals even a round before the end of competitions. The second and third places of the podium were taken by representatives of the national team of Mary province – Annagozel Mekanova (12.5 points) and Ayjemal Soyunova (12 points).


On March 7, two more Chess Championships of Turkmenistan among juniors under 12 and under 18 start at the capital Specialized chess and drafts school. At present intellectual competitions among representatives of law enforcement agencies within the frameworks of the national sports contest "Turkmenistan - a country of high spirit and health!”. The winners will be defined on March 6.

In the autumn of this year in the capital of Azerbaijan - Baku will host the 42nd World Chess Olympiad, which will be attended by the Turkmen sportsmen. Our team will be formed by the results of the national championships. Female participants will be defined at the end of March, and men - the next month.

These days on the shelves of bookstores there have appeared a new book "Chess - a magic game", the author of which is an honored coach of Turkmenistan, international referee and director of Ashgabat specialized chess and drafts school Shohrat Muratkuliev. The book is intended primarily for incipient fans of ancient intellectual games.

The manual includes information about the development history of this sport in our country, starting from the first prominent Turkmen chess player Abu-Bakr ibn Yahya Muhammad Al-Suli (IX-X century) and to the present time. Young readers are also invited to participate in the decision by the ingenious combinations on a 64-cellular field: The book contains 300 chess schemes of different complexity.

For better promotion of intellectual kind of sport, it is planned to organize the first national chess tournament for preschool age children next month in Ashgabat.
