Turkmenistan – Saudi Arabia: strengthening mutually beneficial economic relations

The fourth meeting of the Intergovernmental Turkmenistan-Saudi Arabia commission on trade and economic cooperation took place in the Turkmen capital. The meeting agenda focused on the tasks on strengthening the bilateral business partnership. Heads and representatives of a number of government institutions, including ministries and departments of the two countries attended the meeting. The representative delegation headed by the Minister of Trade and Industry of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia arrived in Ashgabat to take part in the meeting.

Expressing satisfaction with the fruitful character and increasing dynamics of the bilateral relations, in particular in the sphere of trade, economic and humanitarian relations, Co-Chairmen underlined the role of the joint Intergovernmental commission in development of the efficient cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Thanking President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and the Government of Turkmenistan for the cordial welcome, the head of the delegation of Saudi Arabia expressed belief in that the outcomes of the meeting in Ashgabat would contribute to the further development of the interstate cooperation built on the principles of mutual respect and equality

The meeting participants discussed the outcomes of the work done on implementation of the agreements achieved earlier. Speaking about the existing potential for enhancing fruitful trade and economic cooperation, the meeting participants emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts to increase the export and import volumes. In this regard, it was underlined the significance of meetings between businessmen of the two countries that would contribute to further implementation of new investment projects.

Those speaking suggested widening partnership in the textile and food industries, in the sphere of construction and banking sector. The members of the commission also called for building up close relations between the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan and the Export Development Authority of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and arranging participation of the representatives of the two countries in expositions and forums organized in Turkmenistan and Saudi Arabia.

Fuel and energy sector and mining industry were specified among the priority vectors for cooperation. Speaking about the significance of enhancing cooperation in these spheres, the meeting participants focused on wide opportunities to achieve the tasks. In this regard, the leading oil and gas companies in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia expressed their interest in exploring the promising Turkmen market.

Transport and communications were specified among the important spheres of the bilateral partnership.

Underlining the importance of widening cooperation in the agricultural sector, the members of the commission called for development of close relations between specialized scientific and research centres of the two countries. It was also suggested to share experience in the farm production management, processing and storage of agricultural products.

The practical steps to be taken with the aim to strengthen humanitarian relations between Turkmenistan and Saudi Arabia, in particular in the scultural, scientific and educational spheres, in the spheres of sports and tourism were defined during the meeting.

Relevant Protocol was signed on the outcomes of the meeting.

Turkmenistan – Saudi Arabia business forum focused on the intensification of the bilateral partnership in the context of the promising plans for the future. Underling the potential of the Turkmen market, where all necessary conditions are created for successful investment activities, Saudi Arabian businessmen expressed the willingness to establish mutually beneficial trade and economic, scientific and technological cooperation as well as build up partnership in other areas.
