Employees of Hydrometeorology Committee at the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan celebrate their professional holiday in new administrative building equipped with the latest technology. The new facility was constructed within the comprehensive modernization of Turkmenhydromet initiated by Decree of the President of Turkmenistan from August 7, 2013.
Today, the system of Turkmenhydromet equipped with advanced software functions as a single organism. Specialists labor in comfortable offices, using the mobile communication means in their work, data acquisition and processing. All installed equipment, tools, automated weather stations, computer programs are from leading world manufacturers.
National hydrometeorology “accreted” with twenty new automatic weather stations, of which 28 are located in the regions, and two operate within the Turkmen capital. They have simplified the work of existing stations and posts. By the way, the weather only in the capital is provided by the observational data of several automatic stations at once, which are located within the TV tower and the International Airport of the capital. New automatic stations in a given mode take the moisture indicators, temperature of soil surface and air, rainfall and transmitted to the technical department. All in all, on the territory of Turkmenistan, there are more than hundred weather stations and posts.
In the building of Turkmenhydromet, there are three centers - Technical, Hydrometeorology and Economic. Fulfillment of tasks is provided by several departments – “Climate”, meteorological, hydrological, agrometeorological, forecasting, science, technology and international relations. Functions of the department are not limited with formation of urgent forecasts. To understand the overall picture of weather phenomena over Turkmenistan on the background of climate change it is important to collect and analyze weather data. Specialists of Turkmenhydromet work closely with colleagues from Russia and other CIS countries, carry out an active and rapid exchange of information with centers of the World Meteorological Organization. In their work, they use satellite images in online regime, which are updated every 15 minutes as well as maps of WMO for Eurasia, being renewed several times a day, correlating them with more detailed forecast map only of territory of Turkmenistan and maps of actual weather - local weather observation data.
Work of hydro forecasters is of no less importance. They are warning about threat of mudslides, increase of level and flooding of rivers, particularly, Amydarya. The data is received by them from the coastal weather stations and posts. The scope of observations of the department also covers the Caspian Sea, where along the coast, there are six coastal weather stations equipped with special equipment that detects the direction and speed of wind, force and height of wave, water and air temperature in the zone of influence of the Caspian Sea. There are special maritime radars in Avaza, Hazar and Ekerem urged to improve the quality of the researches of hydrological regime of the Caspian Sea in the context of the implementation of international obligations of Turkmenistan as a member of the regional organization CASPCOM.
