The priority theme of the 60th Session of the Commission for the Status of Women (CSW60) is focused on the 2030 Agenda, linking sustainable development to gender equality, protection of women’s right, and enhancement of women’s opportunities. The delegation of Turkmenistan was represented by the Chairwoman of the Committee of the Parliament of Turkmenistan for Social Policy Gulshat Mammedova, the Chairperson of the National Centre of Trade Unions and the Central Council of Women's Union of Turkmenistan, Govher Bayramova, and the Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the United Nations Aksoltan Ataeva.
In the report, the Chairwoman of the Committee of the Parliament familiarized with the national experience in legislative promotion of gender equality, including the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The report noted that the situation of women in Turkmenistan is determined by the overall strategy and priorities of the state policy of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. The development process of gender policy reflects systematic work on improvement of the national legislation. In this regard, special emphasis was put on the law "On State Guarantees of Equal Rights and Equal Opportunities for Women and Men”, the National Action Plan on Gender Equality, and the Constitution of Turkmenistan, updated in accordance with gender-sensitive principles.
The Turkmen delegation also took part in the discussions on various aspects of women’s right and women’s opportunities. This enabled the international community to be familiarized with achievements and successes of the country in this area, including issues on improvement of business activities of women in Turkmenistan, and strengthening the role of the Women's Union.
In the framework of the 60th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women, the Turkmen delegation met with the Deputy Executive Director of UN Women Maria Noel Vaeza, the Chief of the Multi-Country Office of the UN Women in Central Asia, Elaine Conkievich and officials from the delegation of Kazakhstan.
International high level forum opened for Turkmenistan new area of mutual work for implementation of international principles of gender policy at national level.
