Turkmen sambo wrestlers won the first place

The 4th Central Asia Sambo Championship held at the Galkynysh Sports and Health Improving Complex closed.

Combat sambo wrestlers competed for the title in the final day of the competitions. Turkmen sportsmen T.Dovletov (under 68-kg weight category) from Ashgabat, A. Niyazmengliev (under 82-kg weight category) from Abadan and student of the National Institute for Tourism and Sports Ch.Annakurbanov (under 90-kg weight category won the gold medals for the second time. D. Kazakov (under 52-kg weight category), A.Sarykulov (under 62-kg weight category), U. Kazakov (under 74-kg weight category), Z. Madaminov (under 100-kg weight category), N. Izbasarov (over 100-kg weight category) won the silver medals and M. Odjarov (under 57-kg weight category) won the bronze medal.

Thus, summing up three types of the programme – sports sambo among men and women and combat sambo among men, Turkmen sportsmen won 27 medals, including eight gold medals, 18 silver medals and one bronze medal and rank the first in the team competitions. The sportsmen from Uzbekistan rank the second and sambo wrestlers from Kazakhstan won the third place.

According to those speaking during the ceremony of closing the Championship held in Ashgabat for the second time vividly testifies to that Turkmenistan widely supports the international sports movement and became a bright embodiment of the course implemented by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov aimed at developing physical culture and sports and bringing youth harmoniously combining spiritual richness and physical perfection.

“We are very happy for Turkmen sportsmen, who have wonderful conditions for improving their mastership at the modern sports facilities built in Turkmenistan due to the Turkmen President’s great concern about development of sports and health of the nation,” said the Head of the Asian Sambo Federation (AFS) F. Pulatov underlining that the Central Asian Championship in Ashgabat was organized at the highest level. Thus, it is natural that the Turkmen capital was chosen the sambo regional center for Central Asia at the AFS Congress in 2011”.

The Head of the Asian Sambo Federation noted that the next, 5th Central Asian Championship would be held in Ashgabat for the third time. In 2014, Ashgabat will host the Asian Championship.
