The first interactive dialog on climate change has taken place in Turkmenistan under the aegis of UNDP

The conference hall of the International relations institute of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan became a platform for discussions. About 150 representatives of the ministries and departments, public organizations, teachers and students of capital high schools, as well as diplomatic missions and international organizations accredited in Turkmenistan have taken part in discussion.

Experts of joint UNDP projects, connected with adaptation of Turkmenistan to climate change, as well as energy conservation and rational water use field have acted as moderators. In presentations they have tried to inform the actual information on how the economic activities of human influence the climate change and what, in turn, corrective amendments of climate change bring in life of society and each person. Then, during interactive conversation participants have discussed, how and what is necessary to change in a habitual way of life to render less negative influence on climate.


“It is the first interactive dialogue on climate change that we have conducted in Turkmenistan, therefore it is pleasant to see so much participants. Over the last ten years during teamwork, we have reached good results. Turkmenistan has developed and accepted the first national strategy on climate change, huge work has been carried out on preservation of biodiversity and environment, hundreds experts in this area were trained. Turkmenistan actively acts with various initiatives on questions connected with climate change, and it finds our support and is reflected in the signed Framework agreement between the UNO and Turkmenistan for 2016-2020. I hope that similar actions will become our general contribution to the decision of global problem of the present”, - has told Vitaly Vremish, the UNDP Deputy permanent representative in Turkmenistan.

Action has been timed to the International day of the earth and meeting at the UN head office in New York, where the countries will sign the Paris contract on climate change.
