A press briefing on the upcoming World Humanitarian Summit is to take place by the end of May 2016 in Istanbul. The briefing was conducted through the video link from New York and presented by Mr. Stephen O'Brien, Under-Secretary-General and Emergency Relief Coordinator, United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs. O’Brien briefed the participants with short presentations, which was followed by the Q&A session afterwards for the journalists.

As noted, the World Summit for Humanitarian Affairs will convene for the first-ever in 70-years history of the United Nations, aims to become a platform to unite efforts of the international community to adopt effective measures to protect people who are caught up in crises.

Participation of our country in resolving issues of humanity concern, particularly in the humanitarian sphere is reflected in the following events conducted on the initiative of the President of Turkmenistan, the International Conference on "Refugees in the Muslim World" held in Ashgabat in May 2012 and the International Conference on migration and statelessness in June 2014 under the auspices of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for refugees.

As a result of the humane policy, Turkmenistan has become second home for those who are forced to leave their homes and leave boundaries of their countries. The vivid example of it is the fact that during 2011-2014 years, around five thousand people received the citizenship of Turkmenistan, previously permanently living without citizenship in our country and 361 people had been received citizenship of Turkmenistan in June 2015. These measures of United Nations Secretary-General Mr. Ban Ki-moon considered as a positive experience in the context of the practical implementation of the norms of international humanitarian law.
