Footballers of the national team of Turkmenistan have repeated the result achieved two years ago reaching the final of the Fourth AFC Challenge Cup in the capital of Nepal – Kathmandu. The sportsmen coached by Honored Coach of Turkmenistan Y. Hodjageldiev achieved this success defeating 2-1 the team of the Philippines.

In the final Turkmenistan will play versus the Democratic People's Republic of Korea that defeated 2-0 the team of Palestine in the semifinal. Two years ago Turkmenistan and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea played in the final of this continental tournament, when the prime time was a draw but the Korean team won 5-4 in a series of penalty kicks.

The winner of the 2012 AFC Challenge Cup will play in the final of the 2015 Asia Cup in Australia.
