Having hosted a solid composition of participants of VII International Gas Congress, Turkmenistan confirmed once again its status as an international discussion platform, where it was considered vital aspects of partnership in the gas sector, issues of diversification of export routes of energy supply, cooperation and investments, development of national and regional gas transmission infrastructure.

The second day of the Congress was held in the round table format on topical issues relating to the implementation of major infrastructure projects of international importance. Within the framework of the first – it was discussed the opportunities of financing and attraction of investments in construction project of TAPI gas pipeline.

This project is realized on the basis of intergovernmental agreements between the four states. The length of TAPI will be approximately 1814 kilometers. At that, 214 kilometers of pipeline will be laid on the territory of our country, which then will pass through the cities of Afghanistan - Herat and Kandahar, the territory of Pakistan - through cities Quetta and Multan, and reach village Fazilka in India.

Owing to the construction of new gas pipeline, it will be created about 12 thousand new workplaces, which will have favorable effect on improvement of living standards. The annual capacity of pipeline will be 33 billion cubic meters. To put it into operation, including supporting ground infrastructure is scheduled for December 2019.

On the Turkmen section of this interstate pipeline, currently, the specialists of “Turkmennebitgazgurlushyk” State Concern simultaneously carry out the laying of the lash of pipes with diameter of 1.420 mm and their welding in several flows that allows increasing the paces of work.

Turkmen gas will help meet the growing need for “blue fuel” in India and Pakistan, where needs can be doubled by 2030. In addition, it will reduce the constant shortage of energy in transit Afghanistan. Moreover, Bangladesh also shows the interest in the project. After the implementation of TAPI project, India will get its first transnational gas pipeline. Presently, the country purchases gas in a liquefied form and transports it by tankers.

The second round table meeting through the prism of commissioned “East-West” pipeline considered the possibilities of Turkmen energy to international markets.

The main function of the gas pipeline consists in unification of deposits, possessing enormous resources, in the central and eastern regions of Turkmenistan with the western region of the country, accelerating thereby its development, forming here a modern industrial and transport infrastructure, creating new jobs.

At that, the significance of “East-West” gas pipeline goes beyond national boundaries. This project is urged to promote international cooperation in the energy sector. After all, it gives an opportunity to join to the borders of deliveries of the Turkmen hydrocarbon resources the new regions and open new directions, at least four - northern (Caspian gas pipeline), West (with access to Europe), southern (increasing the volume of deliveries of Turkmen hydrocarbon resources to the Islamic Republic of Iran) and the east (to the states located in the south-east of the continent). As a result, our country will play an important role in the establishment of wide-scale, multi-faceted international cooperation between Asia and Europe.

According to the participants of the International Gas Congress, it seems prospective the pipeline project to the west - towards Europe, which discussing process of the construction is entering an active phase.

The implementation of this large-scale plan will mark the beginning of the practical realization of new important and promising vector of Turkmenistan’s energy strategy. Construction of the pipeline in the western direction will provide the global strategic balance in the energy sector, connected with decrease of share in energy supply from nuclear power plants. Export of energy carriers to Europe - one of the priorities of the international strategy of our state. Work with European partners is carried out in business and constructive clue, and it will be continued.

Touching upon issues of impact of fuel-energy complex activity on the environment, the congress participants stressed that the state environmental policy is aimed at ensuring the priority of environmental concerns, the development of economic activity, taking into account environmental issues, rational use of natural resources. In the country, in realization of each of the large-scale economic projects, particular attention is paid to its environmental protection dimension and the environmental safety of new industries.

The keynote of reports of representatives of foreign oil and gas companies from countries of Europe, USA, Asian region, CIS and others, became the desire to expand the business partnership in the energy sector with Turkmenistan, which is rapidly consolidating its positions on the global energy market.

Today, it was also held many business meetings between foreign businessmen and heads of oil and gas departments and corporations of Turkmenistan. Outlined during negotiations new opportunities of establishment of mutually beneficial partnership will contribute to the dynamic implementation of the powerful potential of domestic gas industry both in the interests of the Turkmen state and entire international community.
