The second small bronze medal in snatch was added in wins of the Turkmenistan team at the World Weightlifting Championship which took place in Tashkent. This medal in snatch in the weight category up to 61 kg won Seyitjan Mirzayev, the second-year student of the Turkmen State Institute of Physical Culture and Sports.
16 weightlifters from 14 countries struggled for medals in this weight category.
The 27 years old S. Mirzayev performed in the current World Championship being a famous weightlifter, in his list of medals are the bronze medals which he won in the 2011 Youth World Championship, 2019 IWF World Cup in Fuzhou (China), 6th 2020 International Solidarity Championship in Tashkent and silver medals – in the 2019 International Tournament in the memory of Naim Suleymanogly in Gaziantep (Turkey) and the 2019 6th International Qatar Cup.
In the last Asian Championship, which took place in April of this year in Tashkent city, Seyitjan won a silver medal in snatch with a result 133 kg. But this time, he managed to fix 128 kg only at the second attempt, and guaranteed the bronze medal. At the final attempt in struggle for gold medal our weightlifter tried to lift in snatch 132 kg, but could not and as a result he allowed to go forward the bronze medal winner of 2017 World Championship in Anaheim (USA) 2018 Europe Champion in Bucharest (Romania) Shota Mishvelidze from Georgia (131 kg) and Rok Shin from the Republic of Korea (132 kg).
In the 2021 Asian Championship in Clean & Jerk, S. Mirzayev confidently lifted 150 kg in the first attempt. But this time the coaches decided not to take any risk and chosen 145 kg as initial weight. But, two first attempts were failed. In the final attempt Seyitjan tried to lift 147 kg, but failed again, and as a result, he ended competitions with zero points.
The bronze medal on the score of two ways of lifting in this weight category won the participant of the Olympic Games in Tokyo, the silver medal winner of the 2021 Asian Championship Seraj Al-Salim (Saudi Arabia) – 282 kg (127 + 155). The silver medal won Shota Mishvelidze (Georgia) – 286 kg (131 + 155). And the gold medal won – Rok Sinu (Republic of Korea) – 288 кг (132 + 156).
Today, in the World Weightlifting Championship there will be medal events in the weight category up to 73 kg among men, where Turkmenistan will be presented with the bronze medal winner of the 2019 Youth World Championship, silver medal winner of the 2021 Asian Championship Maksat Meredov.
11 athletes (5 women and 6 men) represent the team of Turkmenistan in the 2021 World Weightlifting Championship.
Let us recall, that the first bronze medal of the Turkmenistan team in the second day of competition won in snatch in the weight category up to 49 kg Yulduz Jumabayeva, 2018 World Champion in the weight category up to 45 kg.
