The tournament took place in Antalya (Turkey). This is first success of our archers in competitions of international level. The success that opens up the perspective for us even in other bigger competitions.
Around 100 athletes from Cyprus, Iraq, Kenya and other countries were competing for tournament awards. Woman single “classic archery” on the distance of 30 meters were the most successful for Turkmen team. Our girls occupied the whole victory podium: Ogulsurai Kakyshova went up to the highest step, the second place was taken by Sabina Alikperova and the third by Shirin Babayeva.
The second gold medal was won by Turkmen team in “compound bow archery” discipline. Here, Georgiy Agiyarov had no rivals on the distance of 18 meters. One more award, the bronze medal was awarded to our compatriot in the same discipline on the distance of 50 meters.
Rovshen Ashirmyradov was in one-step from “gold” and became silver prize winner in classic competitions (18 meters).
For the first time, Turkmen sportsmen tried their hands on 70-meters distance in classic archery in team competitions. The début appeared more than successful – three bronze medals were conquered by Vepa Sahedov, Shamyrat Annaev and Rovshen Ashirmyradov.
Woman team competitions in the same discipline (18 meters) also brought bronze prizes into collection of sport achievement of our country. Here, the abovementioned winners of single competition occupied the third place of the podium.
At last, the fifth “bronze” was recorded to the credit of Turkmen national team by Shamyrat Annaev competing in mixed category on the distance of 18 meters.
As it was told by Chairman of National Archery Federation V. Sahedov, National team of Turkmenistan consisted of 7 athletes and each of them came back home with medal. Such great success will become additional incentive both for further training of our archers and other followers of this kind of Olympic sport.
Active training for Children of Asia International Sports Games planned to be held in Yakutsk (Russian Federation) in June is currently ongoing. The programme of these complex competitions will also include archery. Turkmenistan will be represented by two young and very promising athletes Shirzad Rustembaev and Mekanhan Yazberdiev.
