The final match of the 2021 Turkmenistan Cup will take place in the city of Turkmenbashi. Vice-champion “Akhal” and bronze medalist of the national championship “Shagadam” will meet in the decisive match on December 22 for the second most important club trophy.

In order to further popularize football over the 30-year history of these competitions, the final will be held for the tenth time outside the capital and for the second time in the city of Turkmenbashi.

The first final match of the Cup of Turkmenistan in the city on the Caspian Sea took place in 2006. Then, in the decisive match for the honorary sports trophy, the team of the International Turkmen-Turkish University in a penalty shootout beat the capital's Kopetdag - 7: 6 (in the main and extra time - 0: 0).

And now, 15 years later, the stadium of the Turkmenbashi complex of oil refineries again receives the finalists of the country's Cup.

For Shagadam and Akhal, the upcoming final will be the fifth in the history of these teams.

Shagadam has won a trophy only once. It happened in 2007, when in the final under the leadership of the well-known footballer Kurbanmamed Meredov, they won a 1: 0 victory over "Merv".

“Akhal” won the Cup of Turkmenistan three times and all three times the team of the Main Directorate of “Turkmennebitonumleri” was led to this success by different coaches. In 2013, under the leadership of the honored coach of Turkmenistan Ali Gurbani, the footballers of this club won the trophy for the first time, having won the decisive match "Altyn Asyr" - 2: 1. And in 2014 they repeated the same success, but with the head coach Guvanchmukhamed Ovekov, taking over the Balkan in the final - 3: 2.

It is noteworthy that four years ago “Akhal” and “Shagadam” have already met in the final of the Cup of Turkmenistan. And then, under the leadership of the head coach Rovshan Meredov, the team of the Main Directorate of "Turkmennebitonumleri" won a major victory - 4: 0 and won the honorary trophy for the third time.

This year, the rivals in the upcoming Cup final have already met twice within the framework of the national championship. And both times the victory was celebrated by "Akhal": in Ashgabat - 4: 0, and in Turkmenbashi - 2: 1.
