Sports organization established in December 2014 successfully held in February 2015 the first Thai boxing Championship of Turkmenistan, which determined the composition of the national team in this kind of sports. Presently, its composition includes 19 athletes from 18 to 29 years old. For their effective training, it is regularly held internal competitions and training camps.
Thai boxing gyms actively operate in the following cities: Balkanabat, Dashoguz, Mary, Tahtabazar, Turkmenabat. In Ashgabat, the sports club “Fighting gloves” became like a smithy of champion reserves in this kind of sports. Such athletes as Rasul Rasulov, Nabat Batyrova, Rustem Bayramdurdiyev, and Mustafa Saparmuradov glorified the Homeland, winning prize place at prestigious international competitions. So, in 2014 at the Asian Beach Games in Thailand (Bangkok), our compatriot Nabat Batyrova won third place among the women.
At the Open European Cup, which was held in November 2015 in Turkey (Antalya), the athlete from “Fighting gloves” Club Muhammetberdy Rovshanov became the champion in the weight class of 71 kg. In the same year, our sportsman Rasul Rasulov won 3rd place in the weight class of 91 kg at the World Cup among students in Thailand (Bangkok). At the World Championship taken place in May of this year in the Swedish Jonkoping, two silver medals were won by Rustem Bayramdurdiyev (up to 57 kg) and Mustafa Saparmuradov (up to 67 kg).
The head of the Thai boxing Federation of Turkmenistan is the Honored Master of Sports of Turkmenistan, the world champion in 2001 and champion of the World Cup 2003 Orazmuhammed Byashimov. Being thirteen-year teenager, he came to the boxing section after elder brothers. He has a successful athletic career: champion of national and All-Union championships in boxing within 1990-1991, the champion of “Dynamo” CA in 1991, the winner of the Open Championship of Udmurtia (Izhevsk) in 1993, the 2nd place of International Championship of “A” Class in Turkey in 1995. In 1995, Orazmuhammed Byashimov was among the top ten strongest boxers in the weight class of 60 kg.
In 1999, he took up kickboxing. In 2001, he became world champion, and in 2003, won the title of champion of the World Cup, he has become a four-time silver medalist of the World Championships in Ireland, Austria, Italy, the United States, three times he took “bronze” at the World Championships in Greece (twice) and France, the 2nd place at the CIS Championship.
Now, he is the head and coach of the Ashgabat club “Fighting gloves”, trains the athletes for Asian Games – 2017, and we hope that under the guidance of experienced mentor, our team will represent the country worthily.
