On June 24, 2016, another remarkable page added to the chronicles of friendly Turkmen – Afghan relations; the volume of Turkmen electricity exported to Afghanistan by Serhetabat – Herat – Turgundy destination was increased form 200 million to 400 kWh.
The day before on June 23, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov during working visit to Republic of Uzbekistan for participation as honoured guest in the session of Council of Heads of States of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) met with President of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Mohammad Ashraf Ghani. In the course of the meeting, the Leader of the Nation underlined that Turkmenistan conducts purposeful work for increase of export volumes of electricity to Afghanistan, which is currently supplied at reduced cost to the northern provinces of IRA…
The corresponding concept was adopted for comprehensive modernization and development of domestic electrical energy industry. Based on this concept, new gas-turbine power stations were built, the construction of 220 kilovolt 146 kilometres power transmission line from Yoloten to Tagtabazar and related works on “Tagtabazar” power station are accomplished in different regions of the country particularly in Lebap and Mary velayats of the country.
Our country acts as key partner during realization of regional and inter regional programmes held under aegis of leading international organizations and, first of all, the United nations Organization. At this, creative initiatives of, uttered by the Turkmen Leader from high podium of the UN, which contain fundamental position of Turkmenistan on Afghan matter have special importance and urgency.
It is mainly about important projects initiated by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in energy and transport spheres, extremely topical not only for participating countries but for the whole region.
The construction of Turkmenistan - Afghanistan – Pakistan – India gas pipeline has great importance in expansion of bilateral relations. Realization of this large-scale energy project will promote directly to development of Afghan economy, mobilization of investments, solution of priority social challenges as well as to creation of new job opportunities. Along with this, the prospects of natural gas consumption increase in Afghanistan itself for development of electrification and industry arises.
Thus, Turkmen gas and new railroad line are the keys for industrial development of Afghanistan. The transport corridor and energy bridge will give additional opportunities for development of other branches of Afghan economy especially agriculture and production of mineral fertilizers. The construction of new railroad will give opportunity to Afghan manufacturers to export their production beyond the region and expand the geography of supplies.
Successfully developing good neighbouring relations, defining the essence of foreign policy, Turkmenistan continues to render feasible support in such important areas as health care and education. Already for several years, our country renders assistance in training of highly professional staff as well as provide free medical aid to the population of border regions.
While being devoted to high humanitarian values inherent to Turkmen people indigenously, our country, our country provides humanitarian aid to Afghanistan, support the restoration of its social and economic infrastructure. Earlier, by the initiative of the Head of the State, the hospital and school were built in Afghanistan for the account of Turkmen side.
Long-standing cultural relations, where our afghan compatriots – ethic Turkmens have possibility to visit their historical motherland and take regular part in the forums of Humanitarian Association of Turkmens of the World, occupy special place in interstate dialog.
Dynamic trade and economic partnership between two countries as well as realization of new joint infrastructural projects will become strong impulse for further revival of Afghan economy, successful solution of major social issues including related to provision of occupancy of the population, will promote investments’ mobilization and exert positive influence on situation in Afghanistan.
