The session of Turkmen – Chinese subcommittee for trade and economic partnership

IV session of subcommittee for trade and economic partnership of Interstate Turkmen – Chinese committee for partnership on Deputy Minister level of related spheres of two countries was held in Ashgabat.

Broad exchange of views on the subject of Turkmen – Chinese interrelations in the sphere of bilateral trade and economic cooperation, which have big opportunity for further productive development were shared during the meeting held in friendly and constructive atmosphere.

It was mentioned that China occupies special place among trade partners of our country, which is third largest partner of China in Eurasian continent. Successive consolidation of the partnership in energy sphere, particularly in transportation and delivery of natural gas from Turkmenistan to China, is solid foundation of long-term and strategic Turkmen – Chinese trade and economic interrelation. The deliveries of railroad equipment from PRC as well as application of Chinese telecommunication and information technologies promotes the development of trade and economic contacts in non-raw material sphere. Recently, bilateral investments and technical and economic partnership were positively developed. Realization of projects for construction of panne and silk winding fabrics is the sample of it.

The sides highlighted the importance of the meeting of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov with business circles of People’s Republic of China in November of the last year that gave impulse for activation of cooperation and promotion of big projects between two countries.


The importance of the meeting of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov with Chairman of People’s Republic of China Xi Chinping organized in the last month during the Summit of Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Tashkent, where current level of Turkmen – Chinese interrelation were highly appreciated and fruitfulness and big opportunities for development were highlighted, was noted as well.

At the same time, the interlocutors were unanimous in the opinion that both countries have big opportunities for consolidation of economic relations. In this context, head of the State Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov suggested to make thorough analysis of current bilateral trade and economic relations and prepare special programme for expansion of economic partnership, paying special attention to cooperation in energy, transport, high technologies spheres.

Opening of the representative office of the Union of Industrialists and entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan in Peking in October 2015, indicating the activation of business contacts between both states is very remarkable.

Perspective directions of further consolidation and expansion of trade and economic cooperation were defined during current session in Ashgabat. In particular, necessity of creation of favourable conditions of interrelations between the organizations of both country, search of new types of joint activity in trade and economic sphere, realization of joint projects and programmes as well as their implementation for expansion of trade between two states were discussed. The interest of Chinese part in increase of delivery of cotton fibre, plant origin production, fruit and berry cultures and other types of goods produced by poultry and livestock farm complexes were noted at this.

Speaking of the importance of business forums and regular meetings of business representatives of both countries, the participants expressed their confidence that Turkmen – Chinese investment forum, planned to be held in the second half of the current year, would give new impulse for the development of trade and economic relations. In this context, productivity of sharing of business information including product mix of export, exhibition and fair events, commercial proposals and other were highlighted. The sides expressed their willingness to assist business structures of both countries to seek for the partners.

The cooperation in non-raw material branches of economy including transport, electrical energy spheres, chemical and textile industry, construction materials, agriculture and urban construction was defined among perspective directions of further interrelations. interrelation in financial sector, regional cooperation, organization of joint ventures as well as tourism sphere were defined as the important part of Turkmen – Chinese economic partnership.

The sides also agreed that next session of subcommittee would take place in Peking in 2017.
