Number of seminars have been held under cooperation of Mejlis of Turkmenistan and the UN Children Fund

Upon joining the Convention of the UN on Children Rights, Turkmenistan took responsibility to inform the society about principles and provisions of the document. Presented seminars were focused on monitoring of key aspects of realization of children rights in our country.


Issues of provision of rights and interests of children, creation of favourable conditions and opportunities for full and comprehensive development in accordance with constitutional guarantees and international obligations are in range of top priority directions of the state policy. Social spheres as education, health care, family relations are involved in multi aspect work for harmonization of environment where child is developing. Rights of child enshrined by Turkmenistan legislation are the guarantees for his prosperity and comprehensive development.

Until now, the main accent in the policy for childhood protection was made on provision of rights of child. Along with this, the key aspect of Convention aimed at education of active life position, understanding by children of their rights and role in social life, realize of necessity of personal growth. Following fundamental principles of Convention, Turkmenistan undertakes active work in this direction, building parity dialog with children and stimulating their interested participation in decisions related to them.


The UNICEF together with national parliamentarians held group of seminars in order to monitor this multi stage activity. The first one aimed at training of educators – consultants on children rights, another for training of children on monitoring of subject related to observance of children rights among themselves.

During training of educators among deputies of Mejlis, representatives of Ministry of Education, national Institute of Democracy and Human Rights under the president of Turkmenistan as well as number of non-governmental organizations, topical materials for peculiarities of children development, principles of the Convention for Child Rights and the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, obligations of the State for maintenance, protection and provision of child rights, monitoring of child rights were presented. Having reviewed presented materials, the participants of the training developed recommendations and plans for future work.


Under topical subject of the second seminar, lecturers introduced kids to the Convention on Child Rights, its history, explained main provisions of the document and the law adopted on its basis as well as necessity of monitoring of realization of child rights with participation of children themselves. Second part of the training aimed at education of children on consulting technique of peers for realization of their rights, social activity of children with disabilities, participation in decision making.

As it was mentioned by the organizers of the seminars, the participation of children in promotion of monitoring of child rights is important aspect in development of democratic processes and efficient system of provision of rights and interests of growing generation.
