The major sport forum of the planet will gather more than 10 thousand participants from 126 countries where 308 medal events in 28 sports will be competed. Currently, our compatriots are under adaptation period and active training.

For example, our swimmers train in Olympic Aquatics Centre water centre where main competition will take place. Our national team include master of sport Merdan Ataev, who will compete in 100 meter backstroke and 14 years old candidate of master of sport Darya Semenova (100 meters breaststroke sprint).

D. Semenova excelled in 50, 100 and 200 meters breaststroke competitions in the 14 – 15 years age during license swimming tournament in the spring of this year in Dubai (United Arab Emirates), having won two gold and one bronze medal. She impressively won three times on the same distances in Turkmenistan championship. In the beginning of this month, during VI International Sport Games “Children of Asia” in Yakutsk, Russia, Darya set new national records in 100 meters breaststroke sprint – 1 minute 18 seconds.

With regards to Olympic, by the words of D. Semenova, she could not even expect that dream of all her life will become true so soon, after seven years when she for the first time entered Ashgabat Aqua Sport Complex. The foster of Hojamammed Hojamammedov is the youngest athlete in national Olympic team of Turkmenistan.

Trainer of Darya also represented our country in his time during major sport events of the country in 2004 in Athens (Greece).

For several years already, Merdan Ataev do not give up the leadership in sprint distances in his best discipline – backstroke. Besides, he holds national records in other nominations. He achieved new target in 50 meters free style sprint during spring championship in Turkmenistan, having added 4th gold medal to existing collection. This is absolute result!

However, Merdan considers participation in the final of swimming competition during XVII summer Asian Games in Incheon (Republic of Korea), where the student of National Institute of Sport and Tourism entered the eight of the best, as his main achievement. This defined new national record in 100 meters backstroke competition – 56.63 seconds. The student of honoured coach of Turkmenistan Sergey Epifanov is strongly committed to raise record bar.

Besides the swimming, our compatriots will take part in judo (Gulbadam Babamyratova and Rushana Nurjovova), track and field (Amanmyrat Hommadov and Elena Ryabova), weightlifting (Hojamyrat Toychiev and Gulnabat Kadyrova) and boxing (Arslanbek Achilov) competitions during International Games.
