Turkmen sportsman Merdan Ataev became the first in 100 meters backstroke sprint, having set new national record in this distance – 56.34 seconds during swimming competitions in «Olympic Aquatics Stadium» in Rio de Janeiro.

Thus, he managed to improve his result achieved in this discipline during XVII Asian Games in Incheon (Republic of Korea) where he made hundred-meter distance for 56.63 seconds, which was current record of our country.

At the same day, the youngest member of our team Darya Semyonova showed 1 minute and 19.84 seconds in 100 meters backstroke.

Master of sport of international class Gulbadam Babamuratova has started contests in 57 kg judo fights. She had to face Laura Gomez from Spain. Unfortunately, our athlete lost to Spanish judo wrestler in bitter struggle.
