The Turkmen-German business forum took place in Berlin within the framework of the working visit of the President of Turkmenistan to the Federal Republic of Germany. The main goal of the forum is to define and agree the new approaches towards the bilateral cooperation , the most beneficial areas of development of trade and economic relations, business relations and scientific and technological partnership.
Vice Premiers and heads of key departments of Turkmenistan and the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan took part in the meeting held at the Maritim Hotel.
The specialists of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, the German Committee on Eastern European Economic Relations, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and other institutions, heads of banks and more than 100 companies working in the banking sector, the spheres of energy, mechanic engineering, oil and gas, construction materials industry, chemical industry, agriculture, health care, science and education, transport and communications, trade, tourism, culture and printing industry represented the host country.
Speaking during the forum, the representatives of the delegation from Turkmenistan evaluated economic potential of our country, characterized the processes taken place in various industries and presented the most important indicators and prospects of their development. Particular attention was paid to the innovative component of economic reforms.
The current status of the trade turnover between Turkmenistan and the Federative Republic of Germany was analyzed and the measures to be taken to ensure its further increase given the interest of the two states, were agreed.
Currently, 167 joint investment projects and contracts amounted to US$ 540 million and 555 million Euro have been registered in our country. The private sector enterprises in Turkmenistan work jointly with German companies in such spheres as mining industry, quarry operation, processing industry, construction, trade, service industry as well as science and technology. Among them are the representative offices of Berlin-Chemie, Basf, INROS companies, insurance companies. The old reliable partners of Turkmenistan - Deutsche Bank AG and Commerzbank AG are interested in proposals from other financial institutions in Germany.
German companies significantly contribute to the implementation of long-term projects in our country. Such companies as Siemens, Daimler, Claas, Rohde & Schwarz, Dresser-Rand among others successfully work on the Turkmen market on a long-term basis.
Cooperation in sphere of establishment of interregional transport and transit corridors along the East-West and South-North routes with the entrance to the Asian, European and Middle Eastern markets is a strategic area of cooperation.
Another promising area is cooperation in the energy sphere, where Turkmenistan aims at diversifying hydrocarbon supplies and stands for establishment of multiple-vector routes of exporting natural gas from Turkmenistan to foreign markets, including European ones.
The ambitious projects implemented in Turkmenistan, including the project on construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline and natural gas processing enterprises open up huge opportunities for German companies manufacturing equipment for oil and gas industry.
Large German industrial concerns - Thyssen Krupp and Bosh among others are the promising partners of our country in the industrial sector, production of materials and technologies.
Within the framework of the forum, the Turkmen side expressed the willingness to discuss the issues of further cooperation in the electric power and electrotechnical spheres.
The agroindustrial complex and further development of partnership of agricultural equipment supplies to Turkmenistan is an important sphere of bilateral relations.
Turkmenistan is interested in developing practices of creation and operation of the financial system of Germany, its financial and credit institutions, insurance companies and exchanges.
It was noted that Turkmenistan is ready to offer the most favourable conditions for the work of German companies in various segments of the national economy, which is always open for constructive ideas and offers, for reliable and responsible partnership. The forum in Berlin is considered as an important step towards widening and strengthening long-term trade and economic relations.
The business circles in Germany expressed the interest in deepening cooperation with Turkmenistan and widening their business on the promising Turkmen market.
The forum participants also focused on the issues of education, science and culture, health care and tourism industry.
Education and professional development of highly-qualified specialists, first of all for the health care system, is another traditional area of the Turkmen-German cooperation.
German company Hospitalia International GmbH supplies the high-quality medical equipment produced by leading European manufacturers to hospitals in Ashgabat and the regions of the country.
More than 70 doctors from Turkmenistan attended 1-3-month professional courses in leading clinics in Munich, Hamburg, Augsburg, Erlangen, Nuremberg in 2012-2015. Before, they attended six-month German language courses in the State Medical University of Turkmenistan.
Within many years, the German language have been taught in the higher educational institutions within the DAAD programme and Goethe Institute. The partnership with German scientists and specialists within the projects of the TACIS EU Programme have successfully developed. Each year in Berlin, Turkmenistan demonstrates its potential in the sphere of tourism during the ITB Berlin International tourism exhibition.
A number of projects in the legal and environmental spheres were implemented in our country within the framework of the programmes of the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ). The conferences dedicated to issues of water diplomacy in relations between the Central Asian states took place in Berlin on within the framework of the Project on Water Strategy for Central Asia in 2012 and 2015. GIZ has implemented the programme on Transboundary Water Management in Central Asia. Currently, the Turkmen side is actively working with German partners in the framework of the GIZ project, which is aimed at supporting our country's chairmanship in the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS).
Another promising area is cooperation in the sphere of mass media and printing industry. The new Printing Centre in Ashgabat, which was put into operation in 2015, is equipped by the most advanced high-performance complexes of the Heidelberg Company (Germany), a primary contractor on the supply of printing equipment.
The tax policy of the country aimed at the promotion of investments to the economy due to the flexible tax system and comparatively low tax rates, especially in the private sector makes the Turkmen market attractive for foreign investors. In this regard, it was underlined the particular significance of the Agreement between Turkmenistan and the Federative Republic of Germany Agreement for the Avoidance of Double Taxation with regard to the income and property taxes signed in Berlin within the framework of the working visit of the President of Turkmenistan to the Federative Republic of Germany.
Moreover, the Memorandum on Mutual Cooperation in the sphere of education between S.A. Niyazov Turkmen Agricultural University and the company “Umax Trade GmbH”, the Federal Republic of Germany, the Memorandum of Understanding between D. Azadi Turkmen National Institute of World Languages and Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg (Germany), the Agreement on cooperation in the sphere of agricultural engineering and water management between the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources of Turkmenistan and the company “Umax Trade GmbH”, Germany, the Memorandum of Understanding between the Turkmengas State Concern and the company “ILF Beratende Ingenieure GmbH” in partnership with “CIFAL GROUPE Deutsehland GmbH”, the Memorandum of Understanding between the Turkmengas State Concern and the company “Siemens Aktiengesellschaft” were signed during the visit of the leader of the Turkmen state to Germany.
The members of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan and partner companies in Germany signed 13 memorandums and agreements during the business forum. This fact testifies to the growing potential of the private sector of the national economy of our country.
