The Week of Health and Happiness dedicated to the World Health Day widely celebrated on April 7 has taken place in Turkmenistan.
The Open U17 Junior Sambo Championship was held at the Galkynysh Sports and Health-improving Complex in Ashgabat. Over 200 students of Ashgabat sports schools competed for the title in ten weight categories.
In the afternoon, the exhibition calisthenics and sports gymnastics performances took place at the Center of Culture and Sports in Ashgabat. The event was organized by the Central Council of the Women's Union of Turkmenistan and the State Committee for Tourism and Sport.
Senior pupils of secondary schools in Ashgabat competed in various sports events, including 100-meter race, tug-of-war and the ‘yaglyga tovusmak’ national game organized by the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan, Ashgabat Khyakimlik and the Central Council of Magtymguly Youth Organisation at the Chandybil Avenue.
The National Championship of Turkmenistan in cycle racing has continued at the Kopetdag highway. On the second day, the competitions were held in 60-meter cycle race. The Ashgabat-1 team including the students of the High Sportsmanship School of Turkmenistan and the School for National Sports of the Ashgabat Municipal Sports Committee won the first place. In the individual events, Rovshan Amangeldiev demonstrated the best results.
The Men’s Chess National Championship continued in the Turkmen capital with the games of the second and third rounds. 14 chess players, including ten winners of the previous championship and four players, who demonstrated good results in the 2012 national championship among men of the first league, took part in the second day tournament. Among them were international Grand Master, two International Masters, seven FIDE Masters, three National Masters and one Master of Sports Candidate.
The competitions in various sports took place at the new sports school in Kunya Urgench, Dashoguz Velayat. The teams of municipal schools competed on the outdoor football ground of the new sports facility. The competitions in the Goresh national wrestling, wushu, karate, and big tennis were held in the city. The basketball, volleyball, cycling and other competitions will be organized in Kunya Urgench within the framework of the Week of Health and Happiness.
The students of higher and vocational institutions of Dashoguz Velayat started their day racing. The semi-final matches of the Open Boxing Championship have kept the spectators in suspence. The labor groups of the city competed in the volleyball competitions.
New sports school 4 in the administrative center of Mary Velayat hosted the velayat kickboxing tournament. Mary sportsmen won the first place, the representatives of Sakarchaga Etrap took the second place, and the athletes from Mary Etrap were on the third place. Diplomas and valuable presents were awarded to the winners.
The Lebap Velayat Football Challenge Cup started at the sports arena of the Himiyachy stadium in Turkmenabat. The teams representing the cities and etraps of the velayat take part in the tournament. The winner will be announced on April 5. The two-day mini-football competitions that brought together the workers of the sphere of education and sport of the region were held at sports school 2 in Turkmenabat.
The sports contest among the workers of enterprises, organisations and institutions has continued in the cities of Lebap Velayat etraps. The winners of the contest will be announced on April 5.
The U16 Velayat Checkers Championship took place in Karabekaul. The youth competitions in handball, boxing, and the championship of the eastern region in mini-football among women were held in the administrative center of Lebap Velayat.
Two open championships in mini-football and volleyball were held at the multifunctional sports and health-improving complex of the Turkmenbashi complex of oil refineries in Balkan Velayat. Over 100 football players divided into 18 teams representing all manufacturing and auxiliary units of the refinery complex competed in the tournament. The men's and women's teams of the giant of the oil and gas industry of Turkmenistan took part in the volleyball contest.
The National Junior Hockey Tournament for the Cup of the President of Turkmenistan started at the Olympic National Sports Palace on April 4. Four teams, including Burgut team representing the State Committee of Turkmenistan for Tourism and Sports, Oguz Khan team of the Turkmengaz State Concern, Shire team of the trade and textile industry sphere and Alp Arslan team of the transport and communications sphere compete for the prestigious trophy. The highly-qualified coaches from Russia, including Honoured Coach of Tatarstan Lenar Vildanov, Artem Gushin, Sergey Gusev and Oleg Tulukin prepared our sportsmen for the competitions.
On April 7, the final and the third-place matches will be played at the new arena of the Winter Sports Complex designed for 10,000 spectators that was opened last year with participation of the President of Turkmenistan.
On April 4, football fans enjoyed the final match between the reigning Champion – the Balkan FC (Balkanabat) and Turkmenistan Cup winner – the team of the International Turkmen-Turkish University that competed for the Super Cup.
It is notable that the representatives of the diplomatic missions accredited in Turkmenistan have decided to join to the health-improving action held in Turkmenistan within the Week of Health and Happiness. The diplomats representing foreign countries in Turkmenistan competed in the big tennis tournament held at the Ashgabat multifunctional stadium on April 4. They will play the friendly match in volleyball at the sports facilities of the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan on April 5, and will take part in the table tennis tournament on April 6.
