Turkmenistan puts forward new security initiatives

At the meeting of the leaders of the countries of Central Asia, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov came up with new constructive initiatives aimed at creating a long-term security system in the region, neutralizing potential threats and challenges that could slow down the overall progress of the region. In order for Central Asia to remain a zone of stability and trust, not subject to risks for peace and development, the head of state proposed to intensify and strengthen political and diplomatic cooperation, ensure constant monitoring of the situation, timely exchange of information, and an objective analysis of events as the basis for making agreed decisions.

The foreign ministries of the Central Asian states are invited to develop a Roadmap for the entire spectrum of the security agenda for the next two years with the participation of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia. At the same time, the intensification of diplomatic interaction is considered both within the regional framework and with other states in order to support international efforts in de-escalating conflicts and creating favorable conditions for their transfer to the negotiation channel.

Emphasizing the global relevance of the topic of trust in interstate relations, the culture of dialogue, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov said that Turkmenistan is currently preparing an initiative at the UN to declare 2023 the International Year of Dialogue as a Guarantee of Peace. In promoting this much-needed initiative, the Central Asian countries can set an example of respect, equality and trust in relations with each other and actively promote these ideas in the international arena. The proposal of Turkmenistan on the development of the Resolution of the UN General Assembly "Zone of Peace and Trust in Central Asia" is aimed at this.

In preventing potential threats to peace and development, in creating a strong security system, the use of preventive diplomacy mechanisms in the region, in particular, through the activities of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, is of key importance. In this regard, the President of Turkmenistan called for all support and assistance to the UN peacekeeping outpost in the region, proposing to hold consultations at the level of the heads of the ministries of foreign affairs of the Central Asian states and the Regional Center this fall.
