Turkmenistan is preparing a number of peacekeeping initiatives at the UN aimed at increasing trust in interstate relations. This was announced by the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, speaking at the 4th Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia in the Kyrgyz city of Cholpon-Ata.

“The topic of trust in interstate relations, the culture of dialogue is gaining global importance today against the backdrop of the crisis phenomena that we observe in global politics and the economy,” the Turkmen leader said.

He noted that the Central Asian countries are called upon to set an example of respect, equality and trust in relations with each other and actively promote these ideas in the international arena.

“At present, Turkmenistan is preparing an initiative at the UN to declare 2023 the International Year of Dialogue as a Guarantee of Peace, and we expect that this constructive proposal will be supported by all the countries of Central Asia. At the same time, we made a proposal to the UN to develop a General Assembly Resolution “Zone of Peace and Trust in Central Asia”. We also hope for the support of this initiative,” the head of Turkmenistan emphasized.

According to him, it is expedient to intensify diplomatic cooperation, both within the regional framework and with other states in order to support international efforts in de-escalating conflicts, creating favorable conditions for their transfer to the negotiation channel.

The head of state stressed that the countries of the region should offer their vision of using the mechanisms of preventive diplomacy in the region, in particular, through the activities of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia.

“In this regard, I propose to hold consultations this fall at the level of the heads of the ministries of foreign affairs of the states of Central Asia and the Regional Center,” said Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
