During the session of the Cabinet of Ministries of Turkmenistan on September 30, the Vice-premier, Minister of Foreign Affairs R. Meredov reported on the outcomes of participation of our country delegation in work of the 71st session of the United Nations Organization General Assembly. During working visit to New York, undertaken by the request of the Head of the State, Turkmen delegation took part in number of international events and held range of bilateral and multilateral meetings.
On September 22, having made speech during the 71st session of the UN General Assembly, the Turkmen Part, having announced international initiatives of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, stated propriety positions of our state on actual global issues of provision of security and sustainable development, climate change, problems of refugees and stateless persons. It was emphasized that constructive proposals of the Leader of the Nation are aimed at activation of efficient regional and international cooperation meeting thee interests of universal peace, prosperity and progress. In the same day, delegation of Turkmenistan took part in annual Coordination Meeting of the ministers of foreign affairs of countries members of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
On September 23, according to the instructions of the Head of the State, the Paris Agreement, approved in the capital of French Republic on December 12, 2015, was signed. Joining of Turkmenistan to this important document visually confirms reputation of our country as responsible and reliable partner of the world community in solution of the problems related to climate change and fulfilment of the Goals of Sustainable Development, what won high international authority to our Motherland.
During working visit to New York, Turkmen delegation had meetings with the United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, Chairman of the 71st session of the UN general Assembly Peter Thompson as well as with the assistant of the Secretary General, Executive Director of the UN Counterterrorist Committee. Along with this, meetings with the Deputies Secretary General for political, economic, social and information affairs, during which high ranking representatives of the UN made special mention of currency and demand for international initiatives of president Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov enveloping broad spectrum of directions and received general support and recognition in the world arena, were held.
Besides, the delegation of our country held bilateral meetings with ministers of foreign affairs of number of the states as well as with the deputy State Secretary of the United States of America and executive director of Business Council “Turkmenistan – USA”. During working visit, Memorandum of Understanding on bilateral consultations between foreign policy departments of Turkmenistan and Republic of Indonesia was signed.
