According to the instruction of the Head of the State, delegation of our country took part in “Cooperation for peace and prosperity” international conference held in the capital of Belgium on October 4 – 5, which was dedicated to Afghanistan’s range of problems.
The agenda of the forum, where the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, President of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, high level delegations from 75 states as well as leaders and representatives of 26 regional and international organizations took part, included broad spectrum of issues related to joint efforts for achievement of peace and security in Afghanistan, rehabilitation of its economic and social infrastructure, improvement of wellbeing of the population.
In this context, the Turkmen side, speaking at the conference, again gave utterance to initiatives of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov proposed during the 65th UN General Assembly, having confirmed the willingness of our country to present its political space for organization of peace negotiations on Afghanistan. Besides, the participants of the forum was introduced with information on realization of large-scale projects for Afghanistan including its participation. In this relation, the President of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, heads of delegations and other speakers made special mention of importance of construction of TAPI gas line, Turkmenistan – Afghanistan – Tajikistan railroad, increase of volumes of supply of Turkmen energy to Afghanistan as well as to Pakistan, laying of automobile road and fibre optic communication line to this direction. It was highlighted that all abovementioned projects would favour not only recovery of Afghanistan, its integration to modern system of the world economy but also solution of security and sustainable development issues in Asian region.
In addition to that, it was mentioned that humanitarian component, training of qualified personnel for different branches of economy and social spheres are one of important directions of support rendered by Turkmenistan to neighbouring country. For these purposes, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov approved special plan stipulating construction of social facilities and conduct of appropriate activities on systematic basis.
By the results of the international forums, the participants adopted a joint communiqué, which reflects support of TAPI gas pipeline, railroads and power lines in the region as well as expresses the gratitude to the Government of Turkmenistan for willingness to host the 7th Regional conference of economic cooperation for Afghanistan (RECCA VII) in Ashgabat in 2017.
On October 4, the delegation of Turkmenistan took part in the meeting in Brussels, which agenda included wide spectrum of subjects related to implementation of Strategy for the Central Asia adopted by the European Union in 2007.
It was mentioned in the speech of Turkmen delegation that our country pays utmost attention to partnership with the EU as well as the necessity of close cooperation in such actual spheres as climate change and water resources management was highlighted. The importance of fulfilment of Ashgabat declaration, adopted during International forum for security in 2011, and provisions of relevant Action Plan, which reflects key principles of the Un Global Counterterrorism Strategy, was also highlighted.
