The 20th National Football Championship of Turkmenistan among the major league teams of started with the matches in Ashgabat, Mary and Abadan. Nine teams will compete for the medals of the National Championship playing versus each other in four rounds.
Four of them, including Altyn Asyr, ITTU (International Turkmen-Turkish University), Ashgabat and Talyp Sporty – represent the Turkmen capital. Balkan FC (Balkanabat) and Shagadam FC (Turkmenbashi) represent Balkan Velayat. Mary, Lebap and Ahal velayats delegated one team each – Merv, Lebap, and Ahal respectively to the tournament.
The first goal of the 2012 Championship was scored in the 8th minute of the game in Ashgabat, where Vice-Champion and Turkmenistan Cup Holder, ITTU hosted the Talyp Sporty Team of the National Institute of Tourism and Sports. ITTU defeated 2-0 its rivals.
Ahal FC defeated 4-3 the bronze winner of the 2011 Championship Ashgabat FC in Abadan. The twice winner of the Turkmenistan President’s Cup Altyn Asyr FC defeated 1-0 Shagadam FC (Turkmenbashi) and gained the first three points. Merv FC and Lebap FC drew the game 0-0.
Summing up the Championship to be finished this autumn, the top team of the country will take part in the third important club tournament – the AFC President’s Cup in 2013.
