The 41st World Sambo Championship started in Sophia, Bulgaria and gathered hundreds of sportsmen from 80 countries in the “Arena Armeets” complex. Turkmen wrestlers won two medals in the first day of the competitions – silver (combat version) and bronze (classic style).
Charymyrat Annagurbanov, competing in up to 100 kg weight category where 20 wrestlers fight for the prizes, became silver medal winner. He won two resounding victory on the way to the final and lost a tough battle against Mikhail Mohnatkin from Russia in the final fight. This was not the first success of Charymyrat at international competitions. As for today, his best achievement is a gold medal during Asian Championship, which was held last spring in the Martial Arts Complex of Ashgabat Olympic village.
Tejen Tejenov (up to 90 kg) won the bronze. This wrestler also was a prize- winner of several international tournaments including the same Asian Championship in Ashgabat where he won the gold.
