The first round of the Ahalteke Horse of the Year Contest organized by the Turkmen Atlary State Association, a number of other ministries and departments of the agro-industrial complex of Turkmenistan, and the Ashgabat Khyakimlik took place at the Ashgabat equestrian complex.

The final of the annual contest of ‘the heavenly horses’, which was established by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in 2009 and gained the international status in 2011, will be held in the framework of the Turkmen Horse Day celebrations at the International Equestrian Complex on April 29.

In the past years the sorrel stallion Shekilli, the goldish sorrel stallion Gyorkli, and sorrel Hanbegler became the Horse of the Year and won the main prize established by the President of Turkmenistan – the Challenge Cup.

Following the tradition, ten outstanding representatives of the Ahalteke breed – the thoroughbred elite stallions at the age of 3-10 years will compete for the title of the most beautiful and graceful horse.

In the first round of the national contest 40 wonderful Ahalteke horses competed for the right to advance to the next round. The jury estimated the contesters’ conformation, grace and breed characteristics and selected 20 horses. The first round winners will continue to compete for the title of the most beautiful and graceful horse of the 2012 year in the next round.
