The recent election of Turkmenistan as a member of the UNICEF Executive Board for the period 2024-2026 was another evidence of the fruitfulness of the country's long-term cooperation with the UN Children's Fund, the governing body of which Turkmenistan was also in 2018-2020. In addition, Turkmenistan is a member of the Executive Board of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO for 2021-2023 and the Intergovernmental Council of the UNESCO International Hydrological Program for 2021-2025.

This event also confirms the international prestige and wide representation of Turkmenistan in the UN specialized bodies. The country is a permanent member of the Executive Committee of the Program of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the Trade and Development Board of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), as well as the Vice President of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (ECE) for 2021-2023. As reported on the website of the Permanent Mission of the country to the UN, in general, Turkmenistan is a member of 13 commissions, committees and councils of the UN and was elected vice-chairman of the UN General Assembly seven times.

On the 18th to 19th of April, the delegation of Turkmenistan will take part in the 70th session of the UNECE in Geneva, where it is planned to consider issues of economic integration, digital and environmental transformations. Preparations for the participation of the Turkmen delegation in the work of the 70th session of the UNECE and the Ministerial meeting of the UN Special Program for the Economies of Central Asia were discussed at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country at an online meeting with the Executive Secretary of the UN Economic Commission for Europe. According to the Foreign Ministry, within the framework of the talks, priority areas of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UNECE were discussed, as well as an exchange of views took place on the work being done to open the city of Arkadag, possible areas of interaction were identified in its presentation and increasing the importance of space of the Economic Commission for Europe.
