Representatives of the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan took part in the 9th regional meeting of the National Trade Facilitation Committees in Central Asia within the framework of the regional project «Trade Facilitation in Central Asia»implemented by the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ). The participants of the meeting, which was held in Tashkent, discussed the current measures aimed at facilitating cross-border trade, initiatives to digitize trade procedures and improved access to information for the private sector, as well as further plans and priorities for regional cooperation.
The Trade Portal created in Turkmenistan was presented at the meeting. During the visit, representatives of the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan with experts of the International Road Transport Union (IRU) and employees of the State Customs Committee under the Ministry of Finance and Economy of the Republic of Uzbekistan visited the customs post «Yallama», located at the checkpoint on the Uzbek – Kazakh border and got acquainted with the work of the post using digital customs technologies.
The main directions of the GIZ project «Trade Facilitation in Central Asia» are: Improvement of risk management system at border control; Introduction of simplified transit procedures; Participation of the private sector in trade facilitation policy-making processes; Piloting innovative trade facilitation measures.
