Today, the Mejlis held a meeting with the delegation of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), headed by the High Commissioner for National Minorities (HCNM) Kairat Abdrakhmanov, who arrived in our country on a visit.
During the meeting, the Chairman of the Mejlis D.Gulmanova noted Turkmenistan's commitment to its chosen foreign policy course implemented under the leadership of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, which is based on the principles of permanent neutrality, openness, peacefulness and good neighborliness, stressing that in recent years rich experience has been gained in cooperation with major international organizations and regional structures, including the OSCE.
As a full member of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, our country supports the establishment of a multi-vector dialogue designed to have a positive impact on global development processes. In this regard, the parties discussed the effectiveness of the partnership between Turkmenistan and the OSCE HCNM in a wide range of areas, including cooperation in the political, economic, environmental and human dimensions, the development of which is given priority attention.
As the OSCE High Commissioner for National Minorities stressed, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe fully supports the balanced foreign policy pursued by the head of Turkmenistan, which is an important factor of peace and stability in the region, as well as a socially oriented domestic policy aimed at the comprehensive, harmonious development of modern society.
Positively assessing the successful implementation of reforms to democratize Turkmen society, the guests expressed interest in building productive relations with our country. In this regard, there was emphasized the relevance of peacemaking initiatives proposed by Turkmenistan and aimed at ensuring global security and sustainable development.
During the meeting the parties discussed issues related to national minorities and their integration into society. As the head of the Mejlis noted, the equality and well-being of all citizens of the country is one of the keys to its success in socio-economic development. Turkmenistan, having ratified the main international conventions, including on human rights, is taking practical steps to implement their provisions. It has been stressed that the Government of Turkmenistan devotes great attention to the protection and realization of the rights of all members of society, as reflected in the National Human Rights Action Plan for 2021-2025.
The sides also exchanged views on the prospects for building mutually beneficial partnership in the humanitarian field, in particular, in the field of science and education. It has been emphasized that in our country special importance is given to the issues of deep integration of young people in world science, learning foreign languages, which in turn plays a key role in the development of international cooperation.
During the meeting, the guests were briefed on the main functions and tasks of the Mejlis, its composition and areas of activity in the light of cardinal reforms in the legislative sphere, initiated by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, the improvement of which is designed to accelerate the course of large-scale transformational programs of state development.
The OSCE delegation noted the productivity of the work of the National Parliament in the field of legal implementation of the norms of international law in the country's legislation. Therefore, the OSCE representatives confirmed their readiness to further develop a constructive dialogue, taking into account existing, as well as new joint projects and programs.
As part of the visit of the OSCE High Commissioner for National Minorities to Turkmenistan, meetings are planned in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a number of ministries and departments. A cultural program includes a visit to the Kunya-Urgench State Cultural and Historical Reserve in the Dashoguz velayat.
