Special Conference of National Winter Sports Centre, where new management team of this organization was elected, was held in the State Committee for Sport.
Jora Hudayberdiyev was appointed as a Chairman of the Centre. Being the director of Winter Sport Complex at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, he has good experience working in this sphere. The opening of this ice arena was held two years ago. Number of hockey tournaments were organized there for this period. One of them, the Ministry of Internal Affairs Cup was finished on the day before.
Seven teams divided into two groups took part in the competition. Galkan and Shir teams met in the final match, where the players of the first team became the winners. Eziz Akmuhammedov, striking five goals to the contesters, were the best sniper of the final match. He became also the best forward of the tournament.
Iliya Veliyev from Shir and Kerimly Chariyev from Galkan were the best defender and goalkeeper accordingly and were awarded with special prizes from the hosts of the tournament. It is worth mentioning that the goalkeeper of the winning team of the MIA Cup is a member of National team, which will have to compete for the prizes in the next month during VIII Winter Asian Games in Sapporo (Japan).
It will be the first time for our hockey players to compete in the tournament of such high international level. Turkmenistan National Team is in B Group of the second division, where teams from Malaysia, Makao, Indonesia and Iran will contest for the final. The winners of the second division will enter the top group for the next Winter Asian Games.
At present, First Ashgabat Hockey Cup for the children of 2005 – 2006 year of birth and juniors until 16 years old undergoes in the capital Winter Sports Complex. The results of the competitions will be announced in the spring.
