The active students of the higher educational institutions consider that ‘there are no breaks in sports’. In spite of the tight schedule of the examination period, they find time to take part in the large-scale preparatory work for the V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games.
The Centre of Volunteers of the National Institute for Sports and Tourism, which was created in 2014, unites 200 students led by young teacher Shasoltan Orazov.
The volunteers started their acquaintance with the international experience during the winter Olympic Games in Sochi. Within the framework of the visits to the Russian city, the students got acquainted with the Olympic facilities, adopted the practices of their Russian peers, mastering the ‘science’ of volunteer movement at all stages of international completions.
Our volunteers also visited Baku, Nanjing (China) and Incheon (Korea).
The CIS School Cultural and Sports Festival, which took place in Avaza in 2014 under the aegis of the All Russian School Sports Federation headed by the World Champion, Figure Skating Master of Sports Irina Rodnina, offered a powerful incentive to the volunteer movement. Upon the completion of the festival, the team of volunteers of the National Institute for Sports and Tourism was awarded with the special certificate and the Letter of Appreciation of the Russian Federation State Duma. Ten active students of the Institute received diplomas on behalf of Irina Rodnina.
The training programme “Ashgabat-2017. English for volunteers” has been implemented at the National Institute for Sports and Tourism since January, 2015 with the support of the US Embassy, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. The students of the National Institute for Sports and Tourism as well as volunteers representing other higher educational institutions in our country study the English language within the framework of the programme. The students regularly attend the English language classes delivered by Michael Price (Programme Manager) and his colleagues – teachers Kathy Esper, Hazer Walker and Jered Fitzpatrick – the authors of the language programme to train volunteers for the V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games.
Many volunteers know the English language as well as the Russian and Turkish languages. Particular attention at the classes is also paid to the history and culture of Turkmenistan and sports movement development in our country. The students get acquainted with the key aspects of the ambitious preparatory work for the V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games.
The volunteers also study the attributes of the national and Olympic movement, as well as take part in sports and cultural events.
With the support of the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan, the National Institute for Sports and Tourism organized a festival “Towards the 2017 Asian Games” in 2016. The rich programme of the festival allowed assessing the wide range of knowledge, creativity and leadership of young volunteers.
At present, the institute is preparing for another festival “200 days till the 2017 Asian Games”. It should be noted that the students of the National Institute for Sports and Tourism will represent our country at the 2017 Asian Games as members of the national team of Turkmenistan. Purposeful and talented, full of energy and desire to win, they will contribute to the sports image of the country.
