The competitions within the World Athletics Day celebrated each year all around the world gathered together the representatives of all regions and Ashgabat at the Olympic Stadium in the Turkmen capital. The competitions were organized by the State Committee for Tourism and Sport and the National Center for Athletics of Turkmenistan under the aegis of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) with the aim to select talented athletes to the national team and the promote of the "queen of sports" in the country.
As is known, the decision to celebrate the World Athletics Day annually was taken by the International Association Amateur Federations (IAAF) in the mid-nineties. In Turkmenistan, an IAAF permanent member this holiday is also celebrated on a regular basis.
This year boys and girls (U16), and juniors (U18) took part in the two-day competitions held in the country within the framework of the World Athletics Day.
The youngest athletes competed in the 50-meter and 100-meter hurdle races and in 60-meter flat race. Elder sportsmen competed in 100-meter and 110-meter hurdle races, 100-, 400- and 1500-meter flat races, as well as in the triple jump, shot put and discus throwing.
The Turkmen sportsmen also competed in other various racing events, as well as in the long jump and javelin throwing.
The valuable prizes and diplomas of the International International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) will be awarded to winners. The results of these competitions will be taken into account when forming the national team of our country to participate in various upcoming international tournaments.
