A focus of the International forum is the sights of Turkmenistan

The International conference entitled “Nature of Turkmenistan: undiscovered wonders of Koytendag” has started in Turkmenabat on May 28 to sum up the scientific expedition with participation of scientists from eight countries, who devoted their joint researches to studying the sights of this unique region of the Turkmen land.

At present, the ancient fortresses of Merv, Kunyaurgench, Nisa, an integral part of the world history and culture are registered at the UNESCO World Heritage List. Koytendag that deserves fundamental scientific researches, making scientific and documentary films about this region, and wide promotion among the international community is worthy of being included into this list.

Among the well-known monuments of Koytendag of the national, regional, and world significance are the rock with footprints of dinosaurs residing over 150 million years ago, healing spring, waterfalls, picturesque gorges, 800-year-old mulberry tree, cavern lakes, caves, pistachio plantations, as well as rare species of animals and birds. Today, they attract many tourists and scientists from all over the world.

The International conference is another step in developing the active dialogue between Turkmenistan and UNESCO and integration of our country into the world cultural space.

Another contribution to this large-scale work will be the International conference “Ancient Merv is the Center of the World Culture” to be held in Mary, the cultural capital of CIS for 2012 on June 6.
