The Durdyev brothers –21-year-old Byashim and 16-year-old Maksat from Balkanabat won the title of the Champions of Turkmenistan in Anglo-American draught events at the Men’s National Championship held in the administrative center of the Balkan Velayat.
The master’s standard national tournament was held in a round robin, where rivals played two games in each round. The Durdyev brothers – Maksat and Byashim gained 34 points each, and equal number of pints in additional events. As a result, it was decided to award the title to the both draughts players.
It is notable that last year the Durdyev brothers – Byashim and Bahtiyar shared the title of the Champion. This time Bahtiyar gained one point less that his brothers and won the silver medal. All-round World Champion in Anglo-American draughts among women Amangul Berdieva gained 32 points and won the bronze medal. She won a decisive victory in a women’s tournament gaining 42 points of 44. A student of the Turkmen State University Merettach Hadjieva and seventh former of Balkanabat Secondary School 7 Almagul Garaeva won the second and third places gaining 34 points each.
The winners of the championship will form the national team of Turkmenistan to take part in a number of international competitions, including the II Mind Sports Olympiad that is held once in four years. This year the important international tournament will be arranged in Lille, France in August.
