The Catalogue of birds of Turkmenistan prepared on the basis of scientific collection of birds, being preserved in Main National Museum of the country, will be soon published.

This collection gathered by many generations of zoologists is the largest one in the country and keeps nearly three thousand species of unique collection intended not for exposition but for scientific study. Already century ago, by means of similar visual material, it was specified the morphological features of birds, time of their nesting, seasonal transmigrations and traced the changes of regions of their spreading and others. Today, this information is very important for fundamental researches as well as for elaboration of the strategy of preservation of unique fauna of birds. On the basis of materials of ornithological collections of the past decades and contemporary data, it is possible to trace the tendencies in dynamics of populations of various species and determine real needs of their preservation.

In the new publication, it is planned to give the specific property for comfort of work with the Catalogue in the Turkmen, Russian languages and Latin. The publication is intended for specialists, working on ornithological material, employees of nature conservation departments, teachers and students of biological faculties of the country’s higher educational establishments as well as scientists, who are specialized in this trend, and everyone, who is interested in the world of wild nature.
