Within the framework of the joint project of the State Committee for Statistics and the UN Development Programme, the State Committee for Statistics introduced the Eurotrace programme to process customs documentation. One of the programme developers, international expert from the Great Britain Romesh Paul provided the training for the specialists of the Committee. Five specialists of the State Committee for Statistics and two representatives of the State Customs Service received international certificates.
The new programme will allow keeping records of the international economic activity of the country, analyzing export and import operations, their trade and geographic structure and classifying them.
During the certificate awarding ceremony, UNDP Programme Manager Nurjemal Djalilova noted that the project on improving foreign trade statistics is one of three economic projects implemented by the United Nations Development Programme in Turkmenistan. The project is implemented based on the principles of co-financing. The interest in developing the statistical measurement system vividly testifies to the responsible approach of the country towards the integration to the world statistics.
The Eurotrace programme is implemented in three stages starting from August, 2016. At the first stage, with the assistance of international expert Romesh Paul, the current situation was evaluated, the working plan was drafted and the Russian-language interface was created. Within the framework of the second stage, five specialists were trained on the basic principles and the programme was introduced. The third stage will provide analytical data.
Today, Eurotrace that is supported by the United Nations Statistics Division is used in the committees for statistics and customs services in more than 70 countries worldwide. “The programme will help Turkmenistan to improve the quality of the foreign trade statistics and develop the strategy of further foreign-economic activity”, said the international expert.
