The representative forum organized by the Ministry of Nature Protection of Turkmenistan brought together leading scientists, experts, ecologists, specialists of the agro-industrial complex and water industry of the country, as well as institutions working in the sphere of nature management, representatives of international organisations, and journalists in the conference hall of the President Hotel.
The priority issues of the efficient nature management and environmental protection, development of cooperation and use of the advanced experience in this sphere were considered during the meeting. Exchanging their views, the forum participants underlined the significance of further fostering the international cooperation in the sphere of nature conservation, noting that Turkmenistan had steadily implemented the undertaken international commitments and put forward significant foreign-policy initiatives in this sector.
Those speaking at the forum paid particular attention to the constructive foreign-policy initiatives put forward by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov aimed at efficient use of water resources, ensuring the regional and global ecological safety. In this regard, it was underlined the significance of the forthcoming summit Rio+20 in Rio de Janeiro, where Turkmenistan will put forward a number of important initiatives addressing the global ecological problems. In particular, at present, Turkmenistan is preparing a grandiose document – the National Strategy for Climate Change that will be presented to the UN agencies. Turkmenistan also suggests creating a specialized structure – the UN Regional Center to address the problems on climate change headquartered in Ashgabat.
The ceremony of awarding valuable gifts to best workers of the nature conservation sphere, who achieved outstanding successes in preserving and increasing the natural resources, on behalf of the President of Turkmenistan took place within the framework of the forum.
