Within the framework of the multi-aspect cooperation of Turkmenistan and the UN to address the global tasks of the modern times, including the problems of refugees, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) jointly with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan organized a meeting with the students of the Institute of International Relations.

Turkmenistan has acceded to many international treaties and conventions on humanitarian issues, including the UN Convention on the Status of Refugees and the Protocol to it as well as the UN Convention on Stateless Persons. A number of joint projects and programmes aimed at solving the problems of refugees and stateless persons are successfully implemented in the country jointly with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

The reports and video clips dedicated to the key issues on improving the world practice of addressing the problems of refuges and developing the relevant long-term measures were presented during the meeting dedicated to the World Refugee Day, which is celebrated annually on June 20.
