During the festival of bagshy-storytellers «Dünýäde ýaňlanýar ajap dessanym, toý tutýar Garaşsyz Türkmenistanym» in the city of Dashoguz, its participants plan to visit the bagshy museum located in the city of Dashoguz.

Established in December 1992, this museum is a unique cultural institution of its kind. Today, he makes a significant contribution to the study and promotion of national spiritual and cultural values and traditions, and the widespread popularisation of the art of bagshy.

Currently, the collection of the museum contains thousands of pieces of literature on the topic of song and music and hundreds of exhibits, including national musical instruments such as the dutar, gyjak, gopuz, tuiduk, and others. There are about ten exhibitions open here on a permanent basis: «Zenan-bagshy», «Sazandalar», folklore, «Bagshylar», «Gyjakchylar», etc. They cover more than a century of development of song and music creativity in the region.

The museum features information stands detailing the creative journeys of local folk artists who became famous throughout Turkmenistan, including the bagshies Magtymguly Garlyyev, Nazar-baga, and Ore Shyh, the female bagshies Akjagul Myradova and Sulgun Meretgeldiyeva, and others.

Today, their work is continued and developed by modern followers, many of whom are in close contact with the museum.

The museum is consistently replenished with new exhibits, most of which are donated by connoisseurs of bagshy art. Among the new exhibits is a portrait of the folk bagshy Ilaman Annayev.

As is known, the craft of making dutar, gyjak and other national musical instruments is well developed in the Dashoguz velayat. Masters working in this field often donate their works to the museum.
