Turkmen football players will start in the CAFA-2026 championship among the youth teams of the U20

The national team of Turkmenistan will take part in the championship of the Central Asian Football Association (CAFA) among youth teams (under 20 years old) starting today in Tajikistan.

According to the CAFA press service, in addition to the Turkmenistan team, the tournament will also feature teams from Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.

The competition will be held in one round, the winner will be determined by the highest number of points scored.

In the first round, the Turkmenistan youth team will face their peers from Afghanistan. Then on the 13th of they will play against the tournament hosts, the Tajikistan team. On the 15th of May, the Turkmen team will face the Kyrgyz national team. Our compatriots will complete their performance in the tournament on the 19th of May with a match against the Uzbekistan team.

The Turkmenistan U20 youth team is coached by 45-year-old Didar Hajyyev, a well-known former national team footballer who also leads the «Arkadag-2» team, which competes in the national youth championship. Dayanch Garajayev and goalkeeping coach Saparmyrat Ovezov assist him in his work with the «youth» team.

As a reminder, at the previous CAFA 2025 Championship, the Turkmenistan U20 team, led by Dovletmyrat Annayev, took fifth place among six teams, defeating Afghanistan 4-2 in the playoff match. The game took place in the Tajik city of Tursunzade. According to CAFA, player of our team Orazguly Orazgulyyev was recognised as the best player of that match.
