The Days of Culture of Turkmenistan are taking place in the capital of the United States. The official Turkmen delegation led by the Minister of Culture was received at the U.S. Department of State. The meeting agenda focused on the aspects of cooperation between the two countries in conservation of historical and cultural heritage and implementation of new projects under the aegis the Ambassador’s Fund for Cultural Preservation Program. The officials of the U.S. State Department were invited to participate in the international cultural events, which would take place in Turkmenistan in 2014.
The opening ceremony of the art exhibition The Art of Magtymguly’s Homeland, which took place at the Meridian International Centre – a well-known cultural and business centre of the capital of the United States, was attended by the officials of the U.S. Department of State, the Meridian International Centre, the Embassy of Turkmenistan in the United States and a number of foreign diplomatic missions accredited in the United States. The exposition included national costumes and dresses, exquisite embroidery, tapestries, paintings of contemporary Turkmen artists and artworks of Turkmen craftsmen.
The presentation of a new publication of the Smithsonian Institute – the catalogue Turkmenistan: the Art of Magtymguly’s Homeland – took place in the framework of the exhibition. One of the chapters of the book presents ten Magtymguly’s poems first translated into English.
