In 290th anniversary of the great poet and thinker Makhtumkuli Fragi a feature film premiere named “Makhtumkuli”, created by the “Turkmenfilm” association named after Oghuz Khan has taken place in television screens of the country.
Authors of the film, on the basis of which was taken the historical data, as well as national precepts and, of course poems of Fragi, tried to expand our representations about life of the poet, having begun the narration from the moment of birth of a boy, named Makhtumkuli…
Transforming spectators through centuries, the film recreates the atmosphere and life of the Turkmen village of those times, customs and traditions of people, relationship of generations. We understand that the time Makhtumkuli came to our world was rather critical, decisive period, when the nation separated from within and compelled to combat for existence against the external enemy, most of all was in need of such a scale personality, with such power of mind and talent that was able to inspire and lead everybody behind himself.
The multi-sided image of the poet is recreated in the film – he is patriot, ready to give his life for the sake of freedom of the native land and better life of fellow countrymen, well educated, aspiring to comprehend the universe bases, the goodwill ambassador, calling people for unity, he is a young man in love, for whom all the beauty of the world appears in the eyes of his only darling, and a jeweler, master of silverware, who, in his products, as well as in own poems reflects the ideas about harmony of life.
The majority of film scenes are shot in the historical “decorations” of famous architectural monuments of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, the spiritual links of generations are clearly reflected: majority of ideas and conclusions in Makhtumkuli works are gathered from poems of his father, author of didactic poem “Behisht-nama” and unique for the Turkmen literature treatise in verses “Vaghzi-azad”. And thoughts about foundation of happy and just state, also expressed in this treatise, subsequently were deepened by a philosophic content and refinements of poetic forms of Makhtumkuli works.
All prophecies of Makhtumkuli have come true, but every time, no matter how many times we re-read his poems, they open for us new sides of eternal concepts, such as love and fidelity, duty and honour, cheerfulness and mercy, patience and courage, resoluteness and reliability, advantage and responsibility, conscience and modesty, unselfishness and responsiveness… They are like seeds that once fell down on the ground, and hence growing as live grass, flowers and trees, earing with golden generous fields.
And exactly with this theme the film about Makhtumkuli ends – sowing of new fields, cropping of harvest… The film shots are replaced with fragments of chronicle reporting – sowing campaign is going on in the country, the beginning of which is blessed by elders-aksakals. The continuity of traditions, spiritual precepts, ideas about favorable happy society and united powerful state – is the main idea put in a basis of the film about great Turkmen poet and thinker Makhtumkuli Fragi.
